Let’s begin with the impossible Cork Trick…
1. The Impossible Cork Trick
To start off try this quite impressive beginner magic trick – the Impossible Cork Trick. This trick would be classified as a penetration effect because you have two objects that seem to pass through each other. The fun part about this magic trick is….it requires little to no preparation AND if you don’t have two wine corks you can use two things of chapstick or something of that size in order to perform the trick.
In this trick you will need two wine corks. You start off by holding each wine cork in the crease between your thumb and pointer finger. With both hands you grab the cork in the opposite hand and take them apart. The secret is with the left hand you will grab the cork in your right hand with your pointer and thumb, as this is happening the right hand will also grab the cork in the left hand but you will twist it down the thumb goes down and the index finger will come up in the back and take it apart.
Ok so now you are probably thinking what the heck did I just read. If that is you, go ahead and check out this tutorial video on how to unlock the mystery of the Impossible Cork Trick:
Next onto bending spoons…
2. Bending Spoons
The ‘Bending Spoons’ trick is a simple and fun beginner magic trick that will wow your audience. The basis of the trick is pressing down on a spoon to make it appear as if it is bending but when you pick up the spoon, the audience will see that the spoon is unbent.
Start by gripping the spoon with both of your hands and press the bowl of the spoon onto a table. Hold the handle of the spoon between your hands, wrapping your three fingers around it and placing your thumbs on top.
“Press down” on the spoon and slide the handle of the spoon through your hands until it is at the base of your hands to make it appear as if the spoon is bending. After this wow your audience by picking up the spoon and showing them it is still straight.
3. Sleight of Hand Tricks
Sleight of hand may seem a little daunting to a beginner magician BUT it doesn’t have to be. Through a few simple tricks and maybe some practice you can start building a foundation for many beginner magic tricks.
Some of you may ask what sleight of hand is, well here is an answer. Sleight of hand is a collection of hand movements designed to manipulate objects such as cards in order to deceive the person you are showing off your awesome magic skills to.
In order to learn sleight of hand start with something basic ~ The False Cut.
The False Cut is a trick to use to make it look like you have shuffled the deck of cards without actually changing the order of the cards.
Check out this tutorial to learn the EASIEST False Cut:
Another easy starting place to learn sleight of hand is through a simple crayon trick. Have someone pick a crayon from a box that is behind your back. Once it has been chosen, have them place it into your hands. Turn to face the person while keeping your hands behind your back and carefully scrape the crayon with your thumbnail, in order to collect a bit of wax under the nail.
Now with the crayon still behind your back in one hand, wave the other hand in front of the person to “read their mind”. While you are waving your hand in front of their face, peek at the color under your fingernail and reveal the color to the person.
4. Find the Card
Now the ‘Find the Card’ beginner magic trick is a classic. It is one of the best and easiest to learn AND it can be done with any deck of cards.
To explain how this trick works, a person will select a card and you find it. The person’s card can be discovered on the top of the deck or if you feel like you’ve got this down you can use any type of reveal that you would like including the “rising card” effect [ https://www.thesprucecrafts.com/magic-trick-card-rise-from-deck-2266980 (LINK TO RISING CARD EFFECT)]
FIRST, you will need to get a deck of cards and complete the setup. Have the person or spectator shuffle the cards and hold the deck so it is facing them and the back of the cards is towards you. Take the second, third, and fourth cards out from the back of the deck so that they are fanned out for the person to see above the deck.
Let the top card stay in place in the back of the deck. This card is the secret, the person doesn’t know that it is there SO don’t move your fingers or turn the deck.
NOW it is time to have them select a card. In order to get them to take one of the three cards, clearly indicate by designating the second, third, and fourth cards as “one”, “two”, and “three”. Once they have chosen, have them memorize their card based on the number and then gather the cards on top of the deck while keeping the secret first card on top.
NEXT depending on the number that the person selected so either “one”, “two”, or “three”, you will take that number of cards from the top of the deck INDIVIDUALLY and place them into the middle of the deck.
To break that down:
- If the person selected “one” you count “one” and without showing the card take the top card and place it into the middle of the deck. The next step is to “find” their card which will be the next card.
- If the person selected “two” you count “one” and move the top card to the middle of the deck. Then count “two” and move that next card into the middle of the deck. The next step is to “find” their card which will be the next card.
- If the person selected “three” you count once again “one” and move that top card to the middle of the deck. Count “two” and move that card to the middle of the deck. Count “three” and move the next card into the middle of the deck. The next step is to “find” their card which will be the next card.
What the person doesn’t know is that their selected card is now on top of the deck.
The FINAL step is to “find” the card. With the person’s card on top of the deck, you can speak a magic word or wave your hand and show that their card has mysteriously risen to the top of the deck!
5. Color Changing Card
Take the ‘Find the Card’ trick up a notch with this beginner magic trick which is the ‘Color Changing Card’ trick! In this trick the person will choose a card that will end up being the only card in the deck that is a different color.
When preparing for this trick put the card you would like the person to choose at the bottom of the deck. Use the hindu shuffle force [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eg5OHLu8Nys (LINK FOR HINDU SHUFFLE FORCE)] to shuffle to cards. Holding the deck in your right hand, use the fingers and thumb of your left hand to grab a small group of cards from the top and drop them from your fingers to your left hand. Tell the person to call out ‘STOP’ whenever.
Once they tell you to ‘STOP’, stop shuffling and turn over the remaining cards in your right hand. This creates the illusion that the person chose the card, however it is just the card you wanted them to choose.
Show the person the card and use the other hand to set it face up on a table. Place the rest of the deck on the table face down so that the person can see the blue backs of the cards. Have them flip their card over and they will be amazed to see a red back.
Conclusion
