The Jinx Magazine (150+ Issues)
The Jinx was a notable magic periodical edited and published by Theodore Annemann from October 1934 to December 1941.
It started as a monthly magazine but switched to weekly publication with its 61st issue in October 1939. The magazine is often celebrated as one of the greatest magic magazines ever published, having significantly influenced the field of magic and mentalism. Many publications in the magic community have followed the format set by The Jinx.
The Jinx included a variety of content, ranging from mentalism and other magic effects to editorials and discussions about the magic community. After Annemann’s death, the publication of the magazine ceased, and original copies have since become collector’s items.
The content and effects from The Jinx have been compiled and published in various books and manuscripts, with Annemann’s Practical Mental Magic being considered a classic in the field of mentalism.

Who the heck are we?
We’re two magic enthusiasts from England that have spent the last six years working ‘behind the scenes’ in the magic industry.
- Host the ‘Of Sleights and Men’ podcast, where we regularly chat with the best magicians in the world.
- Have sent thousands of emails to tens of thousands of magicians—containing hundreds of thousands of words about magic.
- Have produced some of the top memorized deck training on the internet.

But ultimately, we’ll have to let our work speak for itself.
With that in mind,
Here are two things we believe:
- Good relationships almost always start with setting honest expectations.
- Good magic almost always starts with setting clear expectations for the audience.
I believe it was Darwin Ortiz who first introduced me to the power of setting clear expectations.
As he put it, you need to make sure your audience KNOWS you’re holding an orange before you can even THINK about turning it into an apple. Without setting proper expectations, the routine is meaningless.
The more the audience believes that A is the case, the more impressed they’ll be when you show them B.
Setting expectations can make or break these things.
With that in mind, you can probably see why we think it’s important for us to set expectations with you, our reader.
First we’ll start with what you can expect from us:
1. We email almost DAILY.
