What is the best book test magic trick?
The ‘book test’ is a classic effect of magic, and a vital routine in ANY magician’s repertoire. Although the presentation varies, the book test usually consists of the spectator selecting a ‘random’ word out of a freely chosen book, which the magician then manages to ‘divine’ through their power. But there’s so many different book tests out there, it can be hard to know where to start.
In this blog post, I’m going to list the top 5 best book tests – and more importantly, how to learn them.
Let’s get started…
4. Crossfire
2. 13 Steps to Mentalism
1. Boldest Book Test
Best Book Test Magic Trick No.5: Alice Book Test by Josh Zandman
This is a brand new release as of 2019 from magician Josh Zandman.
Josh Zandman is famous for creating incredible books made JUST for magicians – which means they’re outfitted with all kinds of ingenious techniques to enable you to perform a book test that looks nothing short of impossible.
‘Alice Book Test’ is his latest release, one of the hottest tricks of 2019.
It’s a powerful book test that uses the classic ‘Alice in Wonderland’ to create a miracle. Which, in my opinion, is a really cool and original way to present it. Although the obvious drawback is that you can only perform this trick using this one book, it does unlock a lot of awesome benefits. With this method, you don’t need to memorize anything, ask any questions, force anything or have anything written down. Which is a pretty good ‘trade off’ if you ask me.

This book test costs $55, which is definitely a little higher in price point (but stick around and I’ll show you a book test that’s even better than this you can get for just $1!)
Best Book Test Magic Trick No.4: Crossfire Book Test by Chris Philpott
Crossfire is a great book test for when you have an audience around you and you want to demonstrate that you can read the minds of more than just one person. Using Crossfire, you can perform a book test on between 4 and 8 people., along with a great ‘kicker ending’. That’s definitely what makes this book test unique.

Best Book Test Magic Trick No.3: Jay Sankey’s Free Book Test
Okay, here’s one for you magicians that don’t want to bust open the wallet just yet. Jay Sankey is one of my favorite magic teachers, and here he shows you a great easy book test that you can perform using a borrowed book and deck of cards. Check it out by watching the video below:
Best Book Test Magic Trick No.2: 13 Steps To Mentalism
Okay, so I’m ‘cheating’ here, but this really is my pick for one of the best book tests – even though it’s not technically a book test. The reason 13 Steps to Mentalism is No.1 without even being a book test is simply because it gives you all the tools you need to perform your OWN book test…plus so much more.
13 Steps to Mentalism is the book that almost ALL of the world’s greatest mentalists studied at one point or another. It’s widely accepted as the best introduction to the core techniques of mentalism – and so by buying it, you’ll not only unlock book tests, you’ll unlock hundreds of other possible routines and effects. That’s why magic books are so great, and really it’s a pretty good deal for under $30!

Although, if you stick around, I’ll show you how you can get access to even more secrets than are inside 13 Steps to Mentalism…for just $1!
Best Book Test Magic Trick No.1: Boldest Book Test
This is my personal ‘go-to’ book test. Whenever I’m out with friends and get asked to do a few tricks, this one almost ALWAYS works its way into my performance. That’s because of three key things:
- It’s EASY
- It’s totally impromptu
- It blows their mind every time
It’s pretty much the ‘perfect’ book test. Here’s what it looks like to your audience:
You let your spectator select two books at random from their selection. You riffle through one of them and have the spectator stop you on a random page. Using the page number you stopped on, they pick up the second book (which has been in view the whole time) and turn to that same page, looking at the first word on the page. You are then able to reveal the exact word they’re thinking of.
Here’s the best part…
This book test is actually the CHEAPEST one on this list.
How?
Sounds too good to be true, right? The best book test also happens to be the one that’s practically free?
Well, it’s just as good as it sounds. Let me show you how.
The Boldest Book Test is actually a piece of training contained inside my personal favorite online magic training resource – the Conjuror Community Club.
Conjuror Community is an online magic club run by magicians Aaron Fisher and Adam Grace. Inside it, you’ll find loads of ‘training plans’ just like the Boldest Book Test.
Plus – there’s a ton of other awesome benefits to being a member of Conjuror Community, like weekly Live Events, private Facebook group, over 120 exclusive tricks and tutorials, and much more!
