Best Magic Gimmicks
“While we have a deep appreciation for the art of sleight of hand we must confess that the sheer ingenuity of some magic gimmicks are simply amazing and should not be scorned by the lofty ideals of puffed up magicians!” – The Daily Magician
Number 4 Pick: The Cardtoon Deck
This is one of MY favourite tricks, but it is also easy enough for kids to learn too which is great!
A magician asks you to THINK of a card. No tricky moves or sleight of hand; you simply picture any card in the deck.
This is a completely free choice and you never tell anyone what card you are thinking of. The magician shows you a unique deck of cards he has. Each card has a little cartoon stickman drawn on the back. When you flick through them, it creates a little animation.
For the first time, the magician asks you to name your card aloud.
After you do, without any funny moves, the magician begins flicking through the cards. In the animation, the cartoon stickman slowly reaches up, pulls off his hat, and removes a single card. He flips the card over.
It’s your card.
This trick is ideal for kids because it’s so fun. The idea of a stickman reading your mind appeals to kids and impresses adults, so it’s a win win!

This trick was used on Britain’s Got Talent and ending up making Simon Cowell admit that he had begun believing in magic!

Number 2 Pick: The Invisible Deck
The magician hands a participant an “invisible” deck of cards. The participant is invited to shuffle the imaginary deck as much as they’d like… Oop, careful, don’t drop them on the floor!
From there, the participant is free to choose any card from this invisible deck that he or she would like, turn it over, and place it back into the deck somewhere.
The imaginary deck of cards is then handed to the magician, who puts them away and now produces a REAL deck of playing cards.
Slowly, deliberately, he opens the pack and reveals one card turned face down among the rest of the face-up cards, and it matches the spectator’s freely selected card.
This is literally one of my favourite card tricks EVER!
I know what you’re thinking. Here he goes again!
I know, I seem to mention the Invisible Deck on approximately 50% of my posts, but how could I not? This trick is just too good not to mention.

Number 1 Pick: Switch One by Christian Grace
When it comes to the holy grail of card effects, there are a lot of contenders.
(and we’d love to hear your opinions!)
Personally, we love a good old ACAAN but Christian Grace’s ‘Switch One’ might just be a contender.
Here’s what it looks like:
You display a folded card under an inverted wine glass.
You ask someone to name a color, a suit, and a value, to generate a truly random selection.
The card under the glass is revealed to be this exact card.
Pretty insane right?
How on earth…
Here’s what the pros have to say about it…
“Completely imperceptible. I wish these switches had existed when I was trying to work out how to tear and restore a card!” – Guy Hollingworth
“I wish Marlo could have seen this switch. He would have loved it.” – Bill Malone
“The best and most baffling piece of sleight of hand I saw at the Session 2020 and a move that will transform my approach to several effects” – R. Paul Wilson
So, there you have it! If your interested in gimmicks those are the four I most recommend you invest in! Thanks for reading!
