Rope magic tricks can be an amazing trick to perform on stage due to the variety of illusions and tricks you can do with them. If your looking for a new or extra element to your magic then learning a few rope magic tricks is a great way to start.
In this blog post, I’m going to reveal the top 6 rope magic tricks to perform and tell you exactly where you can learn them.
Let’s get started.
Escape From Ropes Magic Trick
The escape from ropes trick is an excellent magic illusion.
First things first, let me just share a little story with you, way back when, winning bets and competitions (as well as feeding my ego to the point of no return – bad mistake), was the only thing my pompous self wanted to do.
Note: At this point, I wasn’t what you would call a magician.
After watching Houdini and a few other impressive escape artists on a mundane Sunday afternoon I decided I had the innate talent to follow in their footsteps.
I made a bet with a competitive rival to see who could escape from ropes (tied in knots around the wrist and body), as well as ductape (wrapped around the upper forearm and ankles). My soon-to-be humiliator suggested we be then stuffed in sleeping backs to add an element of mystery.
The rules were simple. First to escape untied wins. The winner gets bragging rights.
I invited a few family members to watch since it was the memorable beginning of my spectacular career in escapology (absolutely not).
Long story’s short, after struggling furiously against the ropes with little success and feeling short of breath, I began to feel creeping dread at the possibility of losing, which I had cemented impossible in my mind a few minutes before.
But what else could I do but keep on struggling?
So I continued biting on the ropes like a maniac until my teeth started hurting.
At this point, I was starting to give up.
I needed to catch some air so I wriggled out of my sleeping bag with some difficulty and finally poked my head out.
I froze.
My opponent was grinning smugly and had a look of crafty delight on his face. He was completely free of the shackles that were slowly squeezing the life out of me and was resting his head back against the wall, pretending to be bored.
How could he escape so quickly and effortlessly?
The rope against my wrists barely budged.
At the time I had to swallow back tears. If there was one thing I couldn’t stand at the time, it was the feeling of other people being more talented in areas where I wanted to excel (selfish I know.)
Anyway turns out my opponent was an expert magician and a half-decent illusionist.
Some dude called Benji.
And the trick he played on me is the same one your going to learn in the video below.
It’s basically a simple illusion that makes you look like you can escape from ropes really fast.
So as you can see, this is a great trick that can amaze, surprise, and most importantly fool.
If you want to learn how to perform this sneaky trick then I recommend watching the video below to learn how.
Three Rope Mystery Trick
This is a really fun rope trick.
The audience sees you count, one at a time, three ropes of different sizes. You point out a small rope, a medium, and a long one.
Then apparently by magic, the three ropes change to three ropes of equal size, which you count again one by one.
How?

Cut and Restored Rope
The title pretty much sums this trick up.
It’s an incredible trick and if performed well can create great reactions.
You cut a length of rope with a pair of scissors and tie the two pieces together with a simple knot. You then slide the knot from the middle of the rope to near one end, then finish by sliding the knot entirely off the rope, restoring it to its original length.
Here is a video of it being performed.
You can learn this trick in the video below.
Rope Through Neck
No picture for this one I’m afraid.
The Scarf Through Neck trick is an excellent trick to perform on the street. Many magicians have also performed it on television and stage using a rope instead of a scarf.
For this purpose, however, we will stick to a scarf but the principle is the same whichever item you use.
It uses a special knot that deceives the spectator or you can even perform the trick on an unsuspecting volunteer. As the knot is hidden behind the neck, it is unseen by either volunteer or spectator (or both).

You want to be careful with this trick, so watch the instructions carefully and stay safe.
Rope to a silk scarf
This is a cool magic trick for kids.
A rope is made to become stiff and is then turned into a silk handkerchief.

Ring on Rope Magic Trick
This is quite a visual trick.
The performer makes a solid ring appear to penetrate a “knotted” rope that can easily be undone with a tug.
